You may have noticed that in fashion, everything comes back around again. Today, we can see that trends from the ’80s and ’90s are back in style. Some personalities and celebrities bet on retro looks, sharing them on their social networks or on the red carpet. One of the clothing items that has come back into fashion is the high-waisted pants. This style helps to accentuate the silhouette and lengthen the legs. But we should be taking into account its cut and height when combining it with other pieces of clothing.
At Bright Side, we created a list of some of the most common mistakes we make when wearing pants of this type. In addition, we will share some tips that will help you get the most out of them, according to your style and figure.
1. Wear shorter garments on top.
The ideal way to wear this garment is to show off the waist. Short garments combine well with high-waisted pants because they allow you to show your waist off. Don’t hide it with long or wide clothes. Choose tops, as well as blouses or T-shirts, that are just above the hips.
2. Combine them with crop-top sweaters.
You can also wear short sweaters with short or long sleeves, depending on the style you like best.
3. Knot your blouses or T-shirts.
If you want to wear an oversized T-shirt, tie a knot at the waist. This can be in the front or in the back. If it’s a long blouse with buttons, button it up to the first button of the pants and roll up the 2 sides of the garment to knot them.
4. Tuck the upper garment into the pants.
If you combine your look with long or oversized garments, be sure to tuck them into the pants. You can tuck in the shirt or blouse in its entirety, or just the front of the shirt to expose the first button of the pants or the waistband.
5. Choose the right size.
Pants that are too tight or too small will not flatter your figure, and if they look too big, they’ll add unnecessary bulk to your silhouette. Make sure they fit you well and consider hemlines when combining them with other accessories.
6. Add layers to your outfit.
One way to show off your silhouette while wearing high-waisted pants is to create layers to accentuate your figure. You can add vests, coats, and jackets to your outfit, but make sure the undergarment is short or tuck it into the pants.
7. Show off your shoes.
High-waisted pants go very well with high heels, as they will achieve the effect of lengthening your legs. Make sure that the hemline of the basting stitch doesn’t hide your shoes.
If you want a casual look, you can wear jeans and fold the cuff of the basting stitches. Choose models that aren’t too tight so you can gather them at the height you want.
If you combine your outfit with sneakers, opt for straight-cut pants.
8. Choose light fabrics.
Perhaps we don’t dare to wear pants that reach our waist because we think they will be too tight and uncomfortable, but when selecting them choose pants in light and loose fabrics, according to your figure.
9. Accentuate your waist with a belt or elastic waistbands.
Wearing a belt at the waist creates a visual effect of dividing your body in half. Choose one in the same color as the garments it accompanies to stylize and lengthen your silhouette.
You could also achieve the same effect with the same type of pants that have an elastic waistband.
